Weyburn, Virginia: Hardworking Beginnings

History

Weyburn, Virginia was founded in 1884 and developed into a farming and lumber town.
The town was nestled along State Route 252 in the northwest part of Rockbridge County, Virginia, with a population that grew to only 1,400 in the late 20th century. Weyburn became known for its agricultural and lumber mill industries. For many years, Weyburn was a quiet rural community, relying heavily on farming and the Shelby Lumber Company for employment. In 1978, the town saw a significant shift when it was led by its new mayor, Danny Shifflet, who took office with the goal of revitalizing the community.
